We’re so damn lucky.

We don’t have to hide in subway stations while an authoritarian leader bombs our country. All to make it part of its hegemony and cement his legacy.

We’re so damn lucky.

We sleep comfortably in our suburban homes instead of leaving our possessions as air raid sirens sound. Then, invading troops destroy them on the way to the capital.

We’re so damn lucky.

Our children ride their bikes, go to school, and visit the playground. They don’t say to reporters that enemy troops will kill them all.

Ukrainian Flag

It’s 2022. Yet, Putin still lives in an era that no longer exists. His narcissism, tunnel vision, and tiny appendage make him believe he can restore a Soviet-like empire. One that he grew up in, worked in, and never forgot.

He’s no hero. He’s a damn bully.

It’s been said before — the only way to beat a bully is to stand up to them. Not only are the Ukrainians working to make this happen. So are the Russian people that defy the police and protest. As well as once-neutral countries that have decided to assist Ukraine.

When the invasion started, Putin said he hoped he was heard. He was. Now he’s hearing from the billions against him.

Needless to say, Putin isn’t so damn lucky right now.

How to Help

A feeling of helplessness can set in when a crisis occurs thousands of miles away. The best way to move forward is to find ways to make some type of contribution. This article from ABC News lists the organizations collecting money and material donations for the Ukrainians.
